Torrential rain and gales made filming the visit of the Queen Mary 2 to Liverpool almost impossible but by doing a juggling act with an umberella I managed to shield the camera from the rain every now and again.The video shows day turning to night whilst the magnificent Queen Mary 2 was docked for about 12 hours at Liverpool cruise terminal before leaving for her home at Southampton.The visit was part of her 5th birthday celebration as she sailed round Britain.We did'nt stay for the departure and fireworks as my hands and feet were numb from the cold.

A Royal Rendevous: The Queen Mary 2 sounds off to her namesake, using one of the qm's origianl brass whistles, on permanent loan from Cunard. Due to her size and weight, this is as close as the QM2 could get without running aground. This is the exact same reason why she was backed into the main shipping channel in the Los Angeles Pier to pick up her first So Cal Passengers. (Cruise ships normaly dock next to the QM.)

This was a difficult video to take: The sun was directly in the path of the Queen Mary 2. I could not see anything in the viewfinder nor the screen. I had to guess the exposure but all in all it did'nt come out to bad. Queen Mary 2 came from Southhampton, England through the mediteranean Sea, Suez Canal, Dubai, India, Honkong, Shanghai, Aukland, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Mauritius Island etc. etc. 2600 passengers and 1500 Crew, Cinema for 1000 people.

For some reason, the video appears darker than what it actually was. The first scene, up to 14 seconds, shows another smaller cruise ship, the Silver Cloud passing Circular Quay. The second scene shows the rivercat where this ferry was used to film the QM2. This ferry service had a lot more passengers than usual, who wanted to take a look at the QM2. The QM2 is too big to go under the Sydney Harbour Bridge & too big to "park" at Circular Overses Passenger Terminal (which was used for the QE2 later on in the day) The skywriting is on the way to see the QM2 close up. They claim it is the largest ocean liner, but not the largest cruise ship. QM2 (ocean liner) is around 140000 tons, but the Freedom of the Seas (cruise ship) although slightly smaller weighs a bit more at about 150000 tons. To me their is no difference.

The Queens - A Royal Rendezvous
On February 23, 2006 the largest, most luxurious oceanliner built in 2004 - the RMS Queen Mary 2 - paid a visit to the largest, most luxurious oceanliner of her time in 1936 - the RMS Queen Mary. Both ships served/serve the famous Cunard Line and share their name after Britain's Monarch's grandmother. Today, the first RMS Queen Mary enjoys her retirement years as a hotel, museum and convention centre in Long Beach, California since her retirement in 1967 after 31 years of service. The new Queen Mary 2 serves Cunard today as both a cruise ship and Trans-Atlantic liner. This video was briefly shown on Cunard Line's website highlighting the specticle when Queen Mary 2 sailed into Long Beach Harbor to pay tribute to the Queen Mary.
